Here we see Nicola in his studio surrounded by the Moretti canes and his torch. The canes laying on the rack are being gradually heated so are ready for the final melting and use by Nicola. First Nicola makes the body of the candy, and shapes it, round, square, or like the one we see here, firmly presses the center. Then he takes a different color cane and creates the tails. And using his small glass working tools, fans them out and gives them a graceful curve. The candies are then left to cool slowly.
As you can see the canes all look the same color (red - a glowing red from the heat) so working with them and creating the final product is something which must be studied and constantly practiced to create the elegant pieces such as this candy or the animal figures. Nicola even makes an entire orchestra! |
